The West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership, in collaboration with Graham Goulden, are pleased to announce five free interactive and online workshops to promote and support community discussions aimed at developing personal leadership to help prevent abuse and harm in our communities.

Workshop Overview:

In our lives, we sometimes witness attitudes and/or behaviours that we don’t like or agree with.

The default can often be to “ignore” - walk away and remain silent, even when it is a, friend, or neighbour that is involved or impacted. We might not see it as our business or our role to intervene. We might be afraid to intervene. As one great leader once said.

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends”

Do we ever consider the consequences of our inaction? What does our silence and inaction say to those involved or impacted? Does individual silence contribute to further harm doing?

This training will promote discussions on a range of social situations that can have a negative impact in any community. It will look at the concept of ‘Active Bystandership’ and aims to provide answers to the above questions. It also aims to provide participants with some practical strategies that can be used personally to both support and challenge others in difficult situations.

Aims

The aim of these highly interactive workshops will be to explore the role of personal leadership and community to prevent abuse and harm. Recognising the nuances and different needs of our communities, bespoke sessions will be delivered in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, and Wakefield through a two hour highly interactive session.

The aim of this training will be to explore the role of personal leadership to prevent abuse and harm in the community.

By the end of these sessions participants will be able to:

Define active bystandership and its role in reducing harm within a community.
Discuss inhibitors that prevent bystander action.
Discuss the role of personal leadership in both reducing harm as well as its role in activating bystanders in a community setting.
Discuss ways to create a safe and supportive community culture.
Practice the use of bystander tools.

The training is aimed at those active in community cohesion and those with responsibility for policy and delivery of community support from both statutory and non statutory partners.

The VRP is collecting this data and will process it to register you for the above event. We will use your contact information to invite you for feedback that will be used for evaluation purposes, where we may ask some questions to better understand the demographic reach of the event for EDI purposes. This information will not be linked to any identifiable data. The evaluation aims to understand how effective the delivery of the workshop is and where improvements can be made. We may also use your contact information to correspond with you in regard to the event.

The workshop delivery provider will share attendee information with the VRP for the above purposes. We will not share your information with any organisation or third party, except in certain circumstances, which are:

1. if we have a legal obligation to do so or if we are required or requested to do so by a competent authority such as the police or a court;

2. if we need to use or disclose your information to obtain legal advice or in connection with legal proceedings;

3. if we need to share your information to protect your vital interests if you are unable to give us consent or it is unreasonable for us to ask for your consent in the circumstances (e.g. if you are injured).

We will retain your personal information until 8 weeks following the workshop to contact you for feedback purposes and retain evaluation data for 3 months post the evaluation to ensure it is complete. This is in accordance with our information retention policy and on the expiration of such period we will safely delete it.

Information provided to the Combined Authority will be processed under Article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR which states that the data subject has given consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specified purposes.

As a data subject you have a number of rights under the UK GDPR. These include the right to access the information which we hold about you. In some cases you may have a right to have your personal data rectified, erased or restricted, and to object to certain use of your data.

This would not affect the legality of what we do with your personal data before you make such a request and would not stop us from continuing to use your data to the extent that we do not require your consent. It would stop us from further using data for purposes which require your consent (e.g. marketing).
