Synopsis

A CLASSY BROAD traces the life and career of trailblazing producer Marcia Nasatir, one of the first women to achieve success as a producer and executive in a male-dominated movie business. Marcia's life-story is singular, fueled by reservoirs of feminism and Hollywood palace intrigue. Through interviews, stock footage, and Marcia’s own narrative, this “untold Hollywood story” unfolds, following Marcia’s career from lone female literary agent to the studio United Artists where she became the first female vice-president in charge of production.

Marcia Nasatir: Through her long career as a producer, Marcia Nasatir has continually made history and smashed glass ceilings. After becoming the first female vice-president of production at United Artists in 1974, she was involved with making some of the greatest Hollywod films -- THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, CARRIE, ROCKY, COMING HOME, the remake of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, APOCALYPSE NOW. She championed THE BIG CHILL, taking it through seventeen studio rejections before finally getting the film made. She also worked as an independent producer for televsion and film with productions like IRONWEED(1986), HAMBURGER HILL(1987), and MRS. CAGE(1992), and the most recent-- at the age of eighty-three years old -- DEATH DEFYING ACTS (2008). Since 2007 she and Lorenzo Semple have reviewed films on their (now viral) show REEL GEEZERS.

Now 91 years old Marcia continues producing films. Her latest project is ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN. Her spirit is an inspiration to countless women and men in the film industry and beyond.

Praise for "A Classy Broad"

“[Marcia's] story, engagingly chronicled by Goursaud, should entertain and inspire a new generation of women who refuse to be stymied by the status quo.” Stephen Farber, The Hollywood Reporter

“Goursaud’s doc is obviously an admiring, up-close portrait of a brilliant and tenacious producer who had a tougher row to hoe that today’s female producers, coming up as she did in an era that was even more of a patriarchal system. ” — Jeffrey Wells, Hollywood Elsewhere

"As the first female vice president of production at United Artists in 1974, Nasatir didn't just "pave a way" for other women to enter senior executive roles in the entertainment industry—she pioneered a career trajectory." — Katie Kilkenny, Broadly
