Event description
Join us for a free screening of the documentary "9to5: The Story of a Movement" followed by a panel and community conversation!

About this Event

When Dolly Parton sang “9 to 5,” she was doing more than just shining a light on the professional fate of American women. Parton was singing the autobiographical tale of a movement that started with 9to5, a group of Boston secretaries in the early 1970s. Their goals were simple—better pay, more advancement opportunities and an end to sexual harassment—but their unconventional approach attracted the press and shamed their bosses into change. Featuring interviews with 9to5’s founders, as well as actor and activist Jane Fonda, 9to5: The Story of a Movement is the previously untold story of the fight that inspired a hit and changed the American workplace.

The Meaningful Movies Project is proud to present this screening with the support of ITVS and the Indie Lens Pop Up program! We are also grateful to our co-hosts at SSCAN and SEIU Local 925. We are grateful to other Meaningful Movies groups who are promotional partners.

This event was organized by the Mt Baker Meaningful Movies group. Please join us for a free screening of the film at 6PM followed by a panel discussion with leaders from SEIU 925. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for a community conversation on Zoom at 8:00PM. The community conversation will include small group breakout rooms.
