About Improv Fundamentals

This course is a fun, supportive introduction to the core skills of theatre and comedy improv. You’ll learn to create characters, build scenes, and play with others — with no scripts, no pressure, and no experience required.

Over eight weeks, you’ll work with the same group, developing confidence and trust — for stage and for life. Each session builds on the last, with a focus on collaboration, spontaneity, and connection. We’ll finish with a relaxed performance for friends and family, and you’ll receive tailored feedback along the way to support your growth.

Greg Lavell has been part of Melbourne’s improv scene since 2010 — performing, directing, teaching, and creating shows that bring people together. In 2024, he received a Green Room Award for his work in Cabaret Unscripted with Melbourne Unscripted.

He’s worked with companies including Impro Melbourne, Impromptunes, The Big Hoo-Haa, and The Improv Conspiracy, and has taught and performed across Australia and the UK.

As the founder of Melbourne Unscripted, Greg is passionate about nurturing creative confidence and building new formats that balance playfulness with emotional depth. His experience spans theatre, cabaret, musical theatre, and improvised music — and his classes are designed to meet you where you are, whether you’re brand new or finding your way back.
