We are happy to host a conversation and presentation to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Franco and Francoism. Our commemorative event will feature a discussion of the post-Franco transition and a recapping of the Jarama Memorial March in Spain earlier this year from the ALBA contingent that attended.

Please join us as we explore the experiences of those who participated in the march and how they reflected on the legacy of the Lincolns in this special presentation.

After registering, you will receive an email with the Zoom login information. If you have any issues registering for the event, please contact info@alba-valb.org.

ALBA Board member Nancy Wallach will moderate the session.

Former ALBA board chair Sebastiaan Faber, an expert on the post-Franco transition, will explain to us the significance of the dictator’s death and lingering legacy today.

The Jarama Memorial March is an annual commemoration, hosted by the Asociación de Amigos de las Brigadas Internacionales, of the crucial Battle of Jarama that took place in February of 1937. A battle where the forces of national and international fascism were stopped by the Spanish people and the International Brigades.

This year, the Jarama march took place on Saturday, February 22. The route followed the Lincoln Battalion’s steps and stopped at the memorial to the American volunteers.

ALBA Jarama March Attendees will report on their experience from the march, including:

  • Len & Nancy Tsou
  • Tim Parker
  • Cathy Cook
  • Paul Fitzgerald
  • Kate Fogarty
  • Anita Caref
  • Linda Geiser
  • Ray Hoff

We thank the Asociación de Amigos de las Brigadas Internacionales (AABI) for hosting this annual memorial march once again.

The Asociación de Amigos de las Brigadas Internacionale seeks to keep alive the memory of the men and women who came to Spain to defend democracy between 1936 and 1939.

The AABI is a pluralistic, non-profit, and participatory association that welcomes all those interested in maintaining and disseminating the memory of the Volunteers and maintaining their example of solidarity.

It was founded in 1995 to organize a national tribute to the International Brigades in Spain and fulfill Juan Negrín's 1938 promise to grant Spanish citizenship to the Volunteers. Its main objective now is to preserve and disseminate the historical legacy, memory, and values of the International Brigades.
