About this event

As a researcher in the community who is producing and/or using automotive or heavy duty vehicle research datasets, the University of Memphis, Colorado State University, USC Information Sciences Institute, and Geotab invite you to participate in the 4th Workshop, The Road to Future Automotive Research Datasets: Challenges and Opportunities, to be held as a virtual event on Thursday-Friday, September 11-12, 2025 (10am-4pm ET)

This workshop is being sponsored by the NSF-funded PIVOT project and will build on the success of the three workshops held in November 2021, November 2022, and April 2024. In addition to providing updates on the PIVOT project this workshop will focus on the topic of human factors in automotive security and privacy.

PIVOT is a community-based platform intended to catalyze the production and consumption of automotive and heavy-duty vehicle datasets and associated tools to support the community pursuing research in vehicle system cybersecurity, intelligent transportation, and smart and connected communities. The platform provides the community with in-vehicle datasets, telematics data, an open-source data repository, and new open-source tools to help collect, process, and analyze data (see https://www.pivot-org for more information on PIVOT and the prior workshops).

The workshop will continue our efforts to bring together the community around development and sharing of robust automotive and heavy-duty vehicle datasets to support open research in areas with strong societal impact.

Topics we plan to cover during the workshop include:

  • Updates on the PIVOT Project
    • PIVOT Spindle program
    • PIVOT CAN Logger 4
    • PIVOT platform and portal
  • Geotab support for PIVOT, including the Altitude program
  • Updates from government and academic research labs
  • Updates on standards activities
  • Presentations on various government and commercial testbeds
  • Lightning talks on automotive research efforts
  • Breakout discussion: human factors in automotive security and privacy
  • Future directions, sustainability, and next steps

Also, please let us know if you are interested in presenting your research or work at the workshop.

Additional information, including a detailed agenda, will be distributed prior to the workshop.

We greatly appreciate your consideration of this invitation and look forward to your participation in the workshop!

Sincerely,

David Balenson
