Close out your Friday night with a dose of truth, rhythm, and raw expression at First Fridays Open Mic at Busboys and Poets Brookland. From poets and musicians to storytellers and first-timers, this stage is open to voices that move, challenge, and inspire.
Expect a packed house. Expect to feel something. Expect the unexpected. But most importantly, come with an open mind and ear.

🎟️ Tickets: $5.00 + tax/fees online | $8.00 (tax and fees included) at the door
🧾 Wristbands: Available online at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM. Limit 4 tickets per person. No refunds.
👀 Seating is first come, first served. Wristbands must be worn upon entry. Guests not checked in within 30 minutes of showtime may forfeit their seats.
About the Host – Dwayne B (aka “The Crochet Kingpin”)
Dwayne B is a DC native and creative powerhouse—poet, activist, break-dancer, fashion designer, and longtime host of Spit Dat, DC’s longest-running open mic series. As a key member of the Busboys and Poets hosting team, he brings authenticity, artistry, and emotion to every stage.
His performances have spanned SAGAfest Iceland, Woolly Mammoth Theater, and more. He earned the Best Haiku Award at the 2011 National Underground Spoken-Word Poetry Awards, and his spoken-word advocacy for HIV awareness has received national recognition from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, BBC America, Discovery Channel, and The Washington Post.
Whether he's crocheting on the Metro or captivating a crowd on the mic, Dwayne’s ultimate goal is simple: to make you feel.
