45th Annual Black Doll Show - Sower of Seeds: Creating a New Tomorrow

By William Grant Still Arts Center

Overview

Exhibition inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, exploring change, resilience, and new futures through Black dolls and art.

We are excited to announce The 45th Annual Black Doll Show!

December 13, 2025 - February 14, 2026

Opening Reception

Saturday, December 13, 3-6 pm

Curated in collaboration with Heather Hilliard Bonds, Sower of Seeds: Creating a New Tomorrow draws inspiration from Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, where change is both truth and teacher. Through handmade and collected Black dolls and other artwork, this year’s exhibition reflects on transformation amid uncertainty; raids, displacement, fire, flood, and renewal. Like the Earthseed philosophy, Sower of Seeds asks what new worlds can emerge when our care, imagination, and resilience take root. Artists of many media engage in representing and reflecting Butler’s Parables through our own experiences. Each art piece becomes a vessel of hope, a reminder that all we touch, we change; and in changing, we create tomorrow.
