Upcoming Dates:

  • November 3, 10, 17, 24
  • December 1, 8, 15, 22

Who It’s For

These Beginner 1A Progressive Classes are designed for:

  • Absolute beginners who have never danced salsa or bachata before.
  • Dancers who have only taken a few classes and want to build strong foundations in movement, timing, and partner connection.

What You’ll Learn

Over the course of four weeks, you’ll develop:

  • Fundamental steps – salsa and bachata basics.
  • Footwork foundations – essential moves you’ll use in every class and social dance.
  • Partner work connection – learning how to lead and follow with confidence.
  • Core patterns – right turn, left turn, and cross-body lead (salsa).

How It Works

Choose the dance style that best fits you — or take both for the full experience!

  • Salsa (7:30–8:30 PM)
A faster-paced dance that emphasizes rhythm, timing, and crisp footwork. Salsa is energetic, fun, and highly social while still partner-based.
  • Bachata (8:30–9:30 PM)
A slower style that emphasizes connection, flow, and body movement. Bachata often has a more urban, sensual feel with smooth transitions and closer partner work.

Each class builds week to week, so consistency is key. By the end of the series, you’ll have the confidence to step out on the dance floor and enjoy Baltimore’s growing Latin dance community.

Choosing Your Role

In partner dancing, each person takes on a role:

  • Follow – The follow’s role is to receive signals from the lead, translate them, and execute the movements. Follows often add expression through styling, such as arm movements, hip action, and other creative flourishes.
  • Lead – The lead’s role is to guide the follow, prepare them for upcoming movements, and create a strong foundation that makes the partnership flow smoothly.

While follows are often women and leads are often men, roles are not gender-specific. You’re welcome to choose the role that feels right for you.

👉 Learning both roles is considered a major achievement in dance, giving you versatility and a deeper understanding of partner work.

Need to Know

  • No Membership or Partner Required
Anyone can sign up — no gym membership or dance partner is needed. We rotate partners throughout the class to help you learn faster and adapt to different styles. If you come as a couple and prefer not to rotate, that’s completely fine.
  • What to Wear
Dress in comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely.
  • Shoes
Wear shoes with smooth soles that can pivot easily. Avoid sticky rubber bottoms or heavy sneakers, as they make turns more difficult.
  • Schedule Commitment
Please check your availability for all four consecutive Monday classes before registering. Each week builds on the last, and consistent attendance is key to progressing.

About the Instructor

Your instructor, Tiffany Vlard, brings both experience and energy to every class. She has been dancing salsa and bachata for over four years across the East Coast and has been teaching in Baltimore for the past two years.

Tiffany is certified in Bachata CONRI Style, blending strong technical foundations with the urban flair that makes her classes dynamic and fun. She confidently teaches both lead and follow roles in salsa and bachata, helping students understand partner work from both perspectives.
