*This workshop runs over four sessions.Saturdays and Sundays, 10AM–5PM: October 4, 5, 11 & 12, 2025.
Join award-winning designer Bonnie Briant and photographer Spencer Ostrander for this four day intensive class on photobook design and production. Co-teaching the course, Briant and Ostrander will draw on their professional collaboration over three books, offering perspectives from both designer and photographer while guiding students through the process of bringing their photo projects to life as books.
Hands-on workshop sessions will guide students through the processes of editing photos for a book, sequencing, designing, typesetting, and deciding what printed form their project should take. The course will focus on the areas leading up to the actual production and printing of a photobook.
Other topics will include demonstrations of best practices in Adobe InDesign and finding the right format and approach to production which might suit their project best.
The students will leave this class with a complete mock up/dummy of their book.
Instructor Bios:
Bonnie Briant (@bonniebriant) is a creative director, graphic designer and photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. Among the most sought-after photobook designers working, Briant has worked with countless major photographers to create award-winning book designs. A book of her own photography, Lump Sum Lottery, was published in 2021. She has collaborated on designing three book projects with Spencer Ostrander.
Spencer Ostrander (@spencerostrander) is a photographer based in Brooklyn, New York, whose work has been featured in major publications including The Atlantic Monthly, New York Times, New York Times Magazine, Vogue, and The Guardian. Ostrander has published three books of photographs: Long Live King Kobe, Times Square in the Rain, and Bloodbath Nation, all designed in collaboration with Bonnie Briant.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
If you are unable to attend a workshop you’ve signed up for, please contact paul@bronxdoc.org. Our cancellation and refund policy is as follows:
- Full refund minus $50 admin fee for cancellation up to 30 days before the scheduled training
- 50% refund minus $50 admin fee for cancellations after that up to two weeks before the scheduled training
- No refund for cancellations within two weeks of the scheduled training
The BDC reserves the right to cancel classes due to under enrollment up to 3 business days in advance of the first session. In the event of a cancellation, students will be issued a full refund for the class.
