Instructor - Zachary Steinberg

Zachary is a local programmer and mathematician turned amateur astronomer. Some of his favorite projects include a light-up dodecahedron, a tiny handheld polyphonic synthesizer, interactive math visualizations, and a 3D-printed telescope you'll be making in this class!

Class Description

Using a 3D printer and some commercial mirrors, build a telescope powerful enough to see Saturn's rings, Jupiter's bands, and the moon's craters! This class will guide you through the basics of using a 3D printer, teach you how a reflecting telescope works, and then you'll print and assemble one yourself! You'll walk away having built a lightweight telescope more powerful than many commercial ones for the same price.

Materials Fee

The materials fee for this class is $140. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payment in cash or through Venmo.

Class Goals

- Learn how to use a 3D printer!

- Did I mention you'll walk away with a telescope? They're pretty cool

- Learn about optics to understand how this telescope is so cheap
