30-Hour Basic Peer Support Training

Brower Psychological Services' team of clinicians serves over 100 public safety agencies in Colorado and across the country. This team of culturally competent clinicians has been trained by Dr. Jaime Brower, Psy. D., ABPP, who is the founder of Brower Psychological Services. She currently sits on the ABPPSP Board, as the Academy President, and has worked with emergency services for over 2 decades. She now serves as the Vice President of Peer Support and Clinician Training and Membership for Lexipol.

Peer Support Team Essentials:

• Setting up a capable, functional team

• Selection and retention fundamentals

• Requirements and limits to confidentiality

• Limits, liabilities, and ethical issues, including role conflicts

• Organizational communication and guidelines

Peer Support Skill Development:

• Communication and listening skills

• Stress management and resiliency

• Burnout and compassion fatigue recognition and prevention techniques

• Suicide risk assessment

• Grief management

• Job-related critical incident response

• Moral distress and moral injury

• Dependency, substance use, and addictive behaviors

• Relationship and family issues

• Knowing when to refer your peer

• Military and veteran support

• Peer Supporter wellness and self-care strategies
