The UCSF Osher Center invites you to attend the second annual Maurice Kanbar Lecture on Innovations in Integrative Medicine, featuring Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, Founding Executive Director of the Center for Mindfulness. The title of the lecture is “The Entanglement of Meditation and Medicine, and What Love’s Got to Do with It."

Dr. Kabat-Zinn is Professor of Medicine Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he founded the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society, and the world-renowned Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Clinic. He is the author of ten books, including the bestsellers Full Catastrophe Living; Wherever You Go, There You Are; and Mindfulness for Beginners. His work has contributed to a growing movement of mindfulness into mainstream institutions, such as medicine, psychology, health care, neuroscience, K-12 schools, higher education, business, social justice, criminal justice, prisons, the law, technology, government, and professional sports.




The Kanbar lecture can be viewed either in-person at Herbst Hall or remotely through Livestream. CME credit is available for both in-person and Livestream attendees.


In-Person Attendance

In-person attendance for this event is limited to 75 guests. Participants must complete registration through Eventbrite to have their names added to the confirmed list, which will be checked at the door. A box lunch will be provided to each confirmed guest. Guests are welcome to enjoy post-lecture coffee and tea in Herbst Hall from 1-1:30.


Please arrive at Herbst Hall no later than 11:45am on February 16th. If seats are available, unconfirmed guests will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis at 11:50am.


If you registered to attend, but are no longer able to join us, please cancel your registration as soon as possible to allow others to participate.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit

Learning Objectives:

1. Define mindfulness meditation and describe the etymological link between the words meditation and medicine.

2. Describe three lines of evidence supporting the clinical use of MBSR in medical patients with chronic medical diagnoses.

3. Provide three examples of mindfulness in the clinical encounter and how they shape and inform the practice of integrative medicine.

4. Describe one way you can be more mindful in relationship to your own health and wellbeing that would also be of benefit to your patients.

In order to receive CME credit, attendees must

1. Sign in (on the list at the lecture hall or by logging onto livestream via MyAccess)

AND

2. Complete the post-event survey, which will be emailed to you after the lecture.
