$2.54 Virtual Challenge
Overview
We believe in the power of collective giving. The $2.54 Campaign is a simple fundraising that easily allows everyone in the community to get involved by donating $2.54 to give ten underserved students (5 from the US and 5 from Kenya) the opportunity to participate in a life-changing two week Intercultural Exchange, Intercultural Competence and Service Learning Program in Kenya!
With one small gift, we can create access, open doors, and show deserving students the incredible opportunities that travel and global learning provide, all while also advancing equity in education.
Our goal is to raise half of the cost of the entire program of $21,225 during the month of Giving Tuesday that will allow us to cover the program costs for our 2026 cohort. This includes their accommodation, transportation, meals, snacks, entrance fees to educational sites, and co/extra-curricular activities.
Our past campaigns have supported previous cohorts. See how your donation will make an impact in our full impact report here. We also invite you to hear from the voices of our most recent students here.
Here’s how you can help:
- Gift $2.54
- Share this with 5 friends or family members.
- You may also opt to fundraise on our behalf: Team Up for Change: Join an existing team or form your own to amplify your impact and help us reach our Giving Tuesday goal.
Oh, and why $2.54? 254 is Kenya’s country code!
Why it matters?
Steep Barriers to Study Abroad for Underserved Students
- Only 6.1% of American study abroad participants come from low-income or underserved backgrounds.
- 43% of internships are unpaid, making them largely inaccessible to students from low-income families.
- While parents fund most student travel, 1 in 4 trips still rely on fundraising to make them possible.
- $100 million in study abroad funding was recently cut by the U.S. State Department, reducing opportunities for students, especially those from underserved communities.
The Transformative Power of Travel
- 45% of instructors report that travel-based learning is more effective than traditional classroom instruction.
- Students who travel are more likely to attend college and pursue higher education opportunities.
- Travel helps students become more competitive in the job market.
- Experiencing other cultures heightens empathy and awareness, fostering a deeper understanding of others, stronger connections, and personal growth.
