2026 Double MB: Game Design + Community with the Physics at Disney Parks
Overview
DATE CHANGE FROM November 2025 TO January 2026 BY DISNEY IMAGINATION CAMPUS TO BETTER ALIGN DISNEY SYLLABUS WITH SCOUTING AMERICA NOVA STEM AWARD AND MERIT BADGE REQUIREMENTS.
-----------------------
This is an 8-9-hour adventure in Disney California Adventure Park for the DISNEY IMAGINATION CLASS: PHYSICS OF DISNEY PARKS to explore how SCIENCE affects our lives each day and to complete the requirements for the NOVA SCIENCE SHOOT! Award (Scouts BSA) or the NOVA SCIENCE LAUNCH! Award (Sea Scouts and Venturers).
-------------------------------------------------------------------
About the PHYSICS OF DISNEY PARKS CURRICULUM:
From thrilling attractions to iconic entertainment, Disney Parks are dynamic and real-world physics laboratories. In this unique science workshop inside Disney California Park, Scouts and Venturers will explore the principles of physics - the same hands-on physics Disney Imagineers use to create new attractions and enhance classic ones.
Scouts will find out how Physics play a part in the design and operation of Disney theme park attractions and entertainment with principles including Newton's 3 Laws of motion, gravity, and potential and kinetic energy.
Key Learning Objectives
After completing the Physics of Disney Parks workshop, students will be able to:
- Participate in various hands-on opportunities to apply the scientific method.
- Collaborate with peers in creative problem-solving scenarios.
- Take part in brainstorming sessions to design attractions.
- Hypothesize, analyze and experiment to uncover how specific theme park attractions and entertainment work.
- Create concepts for a new Guest experience.
- Define speed, velocity, acceleration, inertia, force, friction and more.
- Compare and contrast attractions and the principles of physics governing them.
-------------------------------------------------------------
THE PHYSICS OF DISNEY PARKS help Scouts meet REQUIREMENT 5C of NOVA SHOOT:
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/nova/workbooks/Scout-Nova-1.pdf
- Design and build a marble run or roller coaster that includes an empty space where the marble has to jump from one part of the chute to the other.
Do the following, then discuss your design, data, and experiments - both successes and failures - with your counselor. - Keep track of your experimental data for every attempt. Include the vertical angle between the two parts of the chute and the horizontal distance between the two parts of the chute.
- Experiment with different starting heights for the marble. How do the starting heights affect the velocity of the marble? How does a higher starting height affect the jump distance?
THE PHYSICS OF DISNEY PARKS help VENTURERS and SEA SCOUTS meet REQUIREMENT 5C OF NOVA LAUNCH:
