2024 Capitals Skate with Dowd’s Crowd and Lindy’s Lineup

Check out our 2024 video here: So Kids SOAR clinics are 100% FREE and enable children with disabilities to enjoy sports and other activities to realize their full potential to succeed in all walks of life. Who: This clinic is open to children and adults from 4-30 with disabilities of any type (every participant will be able to skate or sled). No previous ice skating or hockey experience is required (If you would not like to be on the ice as a volunteer, please contact Glenda with a note ahead of time). Instructors, coaches and equipment will be provided for all participants. You simply need to show up, SKS, Dowd's Crowd, Lindy's Lineup, the Capitals, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, and our volunteers will take care of the rest. Volunteers are needed to pair up with participants and provide them with a memorable experience with a new friend! NEW VOLUNTEERS MUST CONTACT GLENDA AT glenda@sokidssoar.org before registering.

IMPORTANT: We are limited to 10 spots for sledding to those who cannot stand on skates -- please DO NOT sign up for sledding unless your child fits in this category. After all sledding children have gone, skating children may have a chance to ride the sleds too.

What/Itinerary: The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will consist of free skating, as well as sledding. Volunteers to arrive for registration between 10:40 - 11:00 a.m.; Participants/Parents to arrive for registration between 11:00 - 11:20 a.m. Participants can watch the Capitals practice, while enjoying lunch from 11:20 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. When Nic Dowd and Charlie Lindgren from the Capitals finish up practice, they will join us on the ice for the skate from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. *(Please note: times are subject to change due to practice schedule shifts)**. Food will be provided in the party room for participants, volunteers and guardians. *ALL= Please wear and/or bring any gear (helmets, gloves, knee pads, etc) if possible. We will have some used but in good condition gear available thanks to Leveling The Playing Field! Complimentary sticks will still be provided for rental (with skates) to each and every child by Medstar Capitals Iceplex!

When: The event will be held on Wednesday, January 16th from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Parents: Please arrive no later than 11:45 a.m. for registration and check-in; Volunteers: Please arrive no later than 11:00 a.m. for registration and check-in), we will need some early volunteers to arrive at 10 a.m. assist us with set up, if you are interested please contact Glenda at glenda@sokidssoar.org.

Where: The clinic will be held at the Ballston Common Mall Medstar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va. where the Capitals themselves have practice! *Please enter through the main lobby; registration will be to the right of the main lobby, next to the locker rooms.* When you enter the parking garage for the mall, drive all the way up to the top floor.

• Navigate to the Ballston Quarter Parking Garage and follow signs to the 8th floor ice rink
• Parking is available for $1 (up to three (3) hours – additional fee may apply after three (3) hours).
• Large trucks over 6’5” will not fit in the parking garage.
• When you park on the top of the parking garage, Enter MedStar Capitals Iceplex through the entrance on the left (not the Capitals entrance on the right).

BY METRO:

• MedStar Capitals Iceplex is accessible via the Ballston-MU Metro Station. You can navigate to MedStar Capitals Iceplex outdoors via Wilson Blvd, N Randolph St, and Glebe Rd, or walk from the metro to the Ballston Quarter Mall via the skybridge and take the elevators to the 8th floor ice rink.
• To get to MedStar Capitals Iceplex from street-level, take the large glass elevator on the corner of N Glebe Rd and N Randolph St to the 8th floor (top of the parking garage). Please enter the MedStar Capitals Iceplex entrance on the left (not the Capitals entrance on the right).
