About this event
- Event lasts 12 hours
The 2025 Ride Reno 200 (RR200) is an AMA-sanctioned, self-guided dual-sport motorcycle rally. The route will start and end at Mount Rose Ski Tahoe at 22222 Mount Rose Highway, way up above Reno, Nevada. The RR200 is a non-competitive event and no timing and scoring will be used.
If you are a dual sport or adventure rider who likes plenty of climbs and descents, long high-speed sand tracks, rocky jeep roads and high-altitude forest trails this ride is for you. The route will pass through the Pine Nut Mountains, pass by the Walker and Carson rivers, ride a part of the Pony Express Trail and go through historic Virginia City. Expect to see fall colors and epic views.
The RR200 will use trails in the Carson City District of the Bureau of Land Management. Use of USFS-approved spark arrestors is required for all motorcycles. The RR200 also uses public roads and highways so all motorcycles must be plated. There will be a tech inspection at rider check-in.
Two route options will be offered:
- The 'A' route. 199 miles and almost 19,000' of climbing. This route has some harder sections and is recommended for more experienced riders. An adventure bike is not a good choice for this route, although an expert rider could do it on an adventure bike. We recommend that you bring your dual sport if you're planning to do the 'A' route, however.
- The 'B' route. 136 miles and over 14,000' of climbing. This route is recommended for less experienced riders and is adventure bike capable.
RR200 entrants will be provided route maps for both the 'A' and 'B' routes in GPX and KML formats. No Jart charts will be provided so you will need your own GPS on your bike. The Dust Devils MC will provide sweep riders and limited recovery support but all riders are expected to be able to self-navigate and to handle minor trail-side repairs such as a flat tire.
Entrants can pick up their t-shirts on the morning of the event at rider check-in.
Come join us for a high Sierra and high desert adventure! We expect all entrants to ride safely, respect their fellow riders and all posted speed limits, and most importantly to have an epic ride!
Frequently asked questions
No, all motorcycles need to be plated - some of the route is on public roads. USFS-approved spark arrestors are required as well. A ranger will be on hand to conduct sound checks - if your bike has a very loud race-only pipe you may not be allowed to start.
A plated dual sport bike is the best choice for this ride. If you are planning to do the 'A' route you should be an experienced rider with a more trail-capable (300cc - 500cc) bike. If you are planning to do the 'B' route any size dual sport bike or an adventure bike with offroad tires will work.
The longest distance between gas stops is 69 miles on the 'A' route. We have not determined the longest distance between gas stops on the 'B' route yet (still pre-running) but we will keep it reasonable. We'll update that here when we know.
No, overnight camping at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is not allowed. Mt. Rose Campground in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is less than three miles away however (reserve early). Plenty of hotel options can also be found near Mt. Rose in Reno (30 minutes to downtown) or Incline Village (17 minutes).
Sure, why not? A suggestion is to contact Nevada Adventure Rentals (nevadaadventurerentals.com) to reserve a suitable motorcycle. Nevada Adventure Rentals is located 2 minutes from the airport (RNO). The DDMC is not affiliated with Nevada Adventure Rentals or any other motorcycle rental business.
Oh yeah, there will be hundreds of parking spaces - Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is a major resort. The RR200 will be held in the skiing off-season so the parking lot will be empty.
No, the Main Lodge will be closed. The RR200 will be held in the skiing off-season.
No, you don't need to be an AMA member to ride the RR200. The DDMC will have AMA sign-up sheets at rider check-in if you would like to join the AMA, however.
Yes, check-in is required! All participants will have to sign release and waiver forms at check-in. The DDMC would also like all riders to check out when they return to Mt. Rose after the ride, whether they complete their chosen route or not. We want to be sure no rider is left out on the trail.
You can pick up your event t-shirt at rider check-in. Make sure you specify your t-shirt size when you sign up for the RR200.
GPS files in both GPX and KML format for both the 'A' and 'B' routes will be emailed to all entrants on Monday, September 8th, 2025. Please load the routes to your GPS before the day of the event (the 13th). We recommend loading both the 'A' and 'B' routes - the 'B' route is an 'A' route bail-out.
This question was posed by a prospective rider. No, the RR200 is not a race. The challenge will be to navigate the route using your GPS and to overcome the terrain obstacles, such as hillclimbs and sand washes. Everyone should ride at the speed that they are most comfortable with during the event.
