Join us at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center in Mills River on Thursday, August 14, 2025 for the Mtn. Hort Field Day!

Registration begins at 8am, field tours begin at 9am, and a complimentary lunch will be served at approximately 12:30pm.

Frequently asked questions

Where is parking?

Parking for the event is free and on-site. Parking attendents will assist you in finding a spot. Please arrive early so you don't miss your desired tour.

What should I bring?

This event is rain or shine, so come prepared in layers, rain attire, hats, sunscreen, & water. We will have water bottles as well throughout the day. And, be sure to wear appropriate shoes for navigating field conditions.

What should I do if I need to leave the event early?

No problem! Just find a MHCREC Staff Member and we will help get you back to your vehicle.

How much walking should I prepare for?

Our trams will take you as close as possible to each field location. From that spot, you might have to walk to hear the speaker in the fields. Be prepared for any type of field condition, based on weather. Wear appropriate shoes.

Can I join you just for lunch?

If you only want to participate in lunch, we don't blame you! It is also our favorite. Arrive by 12:30 for lunch which will take place at 74 Research Drive.

What will I learn at field day?

Project Leaders & Graduate Students will be in the fields to showcase their research projects. You'll see new varieties of plants, hear about pesticide management techniques, learn about diseases impacting the various industries and how our research is combating the problems facing horticulture.
