1. Assess the demographic imperative facing the United States with the aging of its population and the implications for the delivery of health care to older adults.

2. Identify the 5Ms framework for optimizing the care of older adults: matters most, medications, mobility, mind, and multicomplexity.

About Dr. Gurwitz

Jerry H. Gurwitz, MD is the Dr. John Meyers Professor of Primary Care Medicine at the UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he served as the Chief of the Division Geriatric Medicine for over 20 years.

Dr. Gurwitz has written extensively on improving the health and health care of older Americans, with a special focus on medication safety.
