The Black Male STEAM Summit at Meharry Medical College is an annual event focused on engaging and empowering African American males in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). This Summit aims to address the underrepresentation of Black males in these critical fields by providing opportunities for networking, mentorship, and professional development.
Key components of the Summit include:
- Inspirational Speakers: Presentations from leading professionals and academics in STEAM fields who share their experiences and insights to inspire and motivate attendees.
- Hands-On Scientific Activities: Interactive sessions designed to engage participants in physics, robotics, gaming, and health-related procedures.
- Workshops and Panels: Discussions on various topics, such as career pathways, overcoming challenges, and developing skills essential for success in STEAM.
- Networking Opportunities: Events designed to foster connections among participants, mentors, and industry leaders, helping to build a supportive community.
- Mentorship Programs: Initiatives to connect attendees with mentors who can provide guidance, advice, and support for their academic and professional journeys.
- Educational Resources: Access to information and tools that can help participants advance in their STEAM careers, including internships, and research programs.
The Summit serves as a platform to encourage young Black males to pursue careers in STEAM, promote diversity and inclusion within these fields, and highlight the contributions of African Americans to science and technology.
Upon registration, undergraduate students will receive an email invite to attend the Black Male STEAM Summit welcome mixer on the evening of Friday, November 7th, co-hosted by the Meharry National Alumni Association. This event is free, but separate registration required.
