Dear Prevention and Public Health Providers,
The Washington Association for Substance misuse And Violence Prevention (WASAVP) is proud to announce a series of workshops designed to help guide you through these very complicated and confusing times. Many of you are facing budget cutbacks and policy shifts and confusion about whether programs will be allowed to operate through the end of their contracts. Some of the uncertainty faced by community-based providers has never been experienced in Washington – at least like this.
But you’re still expected to perform your job and to deliver excellent prevention and public health services despite these very stressful times.
This series of four workshops focuses on making partnerships – and growing your local and community-based services – in spite of the challenges we are facing. Times of stress are often the best times to develop new and effective long-term partnerships. The workshops are based on the excellent Art and Science of Community Organizing Training (ASCOT) curriculum but are revised to address the issues we are currently hearing from prevention and public health providers.
The first workshop is scheduled next Monday, June 9, 9 AM-noon. You’ll need to get your registration in right away for the June 9 training. And the remaining workshops will follow each Monday in June. Please see the attached flyer for details. Much like the pressures that some of you are facing, we need to complete these workshops by the end of June because a grant we have supporting the trainings will expire.
Each of the four workshops will cost $75 each, or – a much better deal – you can register for all four workshops for $200, a $100 discount from the individual training cost. But here’s even better news – most of you have unexpended funds that will be lost at the end of June due to grants ending. This is an excellent way to use those funds productively. AND, EVEN BETTER NEWS, we have scholarships available that will let you register for the full workshop series at no charge. Just contact us and request a scholarship.
These workshops are designed specifically to meet the current challenges for Washington’s community-based prevention and public health workforce. Register today to get the link for Monday’s workshop.
