Do I have to attend the full 3 hours?

No! We know the eclipse is long, so if you can't attend the full three hours, make sure to at least be there during maximum eclipse time!

What time is maximum eclipse time?

At 11:48am, the moon will cover about 45% of the sun, the maximum amount of coverage we will see in our state for this annular eclipse.

Question 3

What is the difference between a total solar eclipse and an annular?

Accepted Answer

A total solar eclipse happens when the moon completely covers the sun. In an annular eclipse, the moon covers the sun, but not completely. You could still see a ring of the sun around the moon, and therefor it is not ok to take off your solar viewing glasses at any point during an annular eclipse.

Why will we only see 45% of the sun covered in Minnesota?

The path of the eclipse in the US is from Oregon to Texas. Folks in state along that path will be able to see the full annular eclipse. Areas around the path will only see partial coverage depending on how far out of the path they are.

What is salatul kusoof?

Accepted Answer

Salaatul Kusoof is the sunnah prayer that is done during a solar eclipse. This prayer is unique and quite long. In this prayer, the imam recites from the long surahs, and elongates the rukoo' and sujood. The purpose of this prayer is to glorify Allah (swt) for His Might and Greatness as the Creator!

How long will Salaatul kusoof be?

The salah is technically supposed to be done during the whole period of the eclipse, but since it is hard to stay in prayer for 3 hours, we plan to have a shorter version of the prayer.

Question 7

What if the weather is overcast? (Cloudy)

Accepted Answer

We will let our attendees know beforehand if the event will continue in case of gloomy weather. The eclipse will still happen, but we just won't be able to see it. Salatul kusoof is can still be done in overcast weather. Stay in tuned and pray for clear skies!
