This is an informative session for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows interested in applying to the 2023-2024 Collaborative Teaching Fellowship program.

About the Program

Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at Johns Hopkins, the University of Maryland, and the National Institutes of Aging (Intramural Research Program) enjoy superb research training but have limited opportunities to teach. This program gives trainees a hands-on teaching experience with mentorship and coaching from exemplary undergraduate teaching faculty at local institutions. This experience prepares you for teaching responsibilities at academic faculty positions and strengthens your candidacy for any career that includes teaching as part of your job responsibilities.

Preparing to Apply

Potential Collaborative Teaching Fellowship program applicants are encouraged to participate in their respective teacher training programs -- The JHU Teaching Academy, the UMSOM Office of Career and Professional Development Pedagogy Facilitated Sessions, and the NIH OITE Scientist Teaching Science workshop/ Online pedagogy course or NIA IRP Training for Teaching workshop -- before applying. The selection committee and many of our host institutions prefer applicants with previous experience serving as a teaching assistant or leading courses in the specific topic areas indicated in their applications.

CTFP Partner schools will answer questions about upcoming CTFP opportunities, and recent Teaching Fellows will share their experiences in their fellowships.
