Improving the Bottom Line: How Three Major Corporations Benefited by Hiring Individuals with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders

Public and private companies, academia, government, schools, philanthropists, civil societies, and the autism community are invited to hear the experiences and insights from corporations that have successfully employed individuals with high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

• Musi Lee, MBA — JPMorgan Chase
  As vice president and project execution manager for Global Autism at Work and Global Technology Employee Accessibility, Lee manages the creation and execution of the firm’s strategies to develop a talent pipeline for those on the autism spectrum through establishing partnerships with regional Autism organizations, research institutes and universities.

• Jamell G. Mitchell, MBA — Ernst & Young (EY)
  Mitchell serves as the Neurodiversity Center of Excellence (CoE) Operations Leader at Ernst & Young. He is responsible for securing talent, driving awareness, identifying learning opportunities, and aligning the Neurodiversity CoEs to the firm’s service line. He manages teams across the United States, has developed training procedures, analyzed budget reports, and implemented best practices within the space of Neurodiversity. He will be filling in for Hiren Shukla.

• Jose H. Velasco — SAP
  Velasco is vice president of Products and Innovation and leads SAP’s Autism at Work program. He has presented on the topic of autism in the workplace around the world, including the United Nations, U.S. Congress, and World Economic Forum. In 2016, SAP launched the Autism at Work Summit, a conference series designed to foster collaboration to improve opportunities for individuals with autism in the labor market. He is also a board member of The Arc, the largest national community-based organization in the U.S. advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

The Geigerman Lecture Series was founded in 2015 in memory of Benjamin J. Geigerman, a young man with a high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He exhibited promise and incredible talents, graduating from college with honors. However Benjamin had difficulty obtaining employment, leaving him without hope or a sense of self-worth.

This evening is made possible by funding from Louis Geigerman, Joanne Must, Katherine A. Loveland, PhD, and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Mcgovern Medical School at UTHealth.
