BEST Robotics Simulink Summer Program Workshop

This program targets students who wish to learn more about robot programming and simulation using the MathWorks MATLAB/Simulink products.

The workshop will include two-days of face-to-face hands-on, instructor-led training sessions. The training content will cover programming autonomous ground robots with MATLAB and Simulink. MathWorks provided virtual worlds will be used during the workshop to learn how to use sensors, actuators and different programming approaches to achieve basic robot tasks. Instructors will also cover the application of the software skills gained through this workshop to program the VEX Cortex used on the BEST robots.

The primary focus of the material is on learning how to program robot platforms and use the skills in the actual competition. Although there is no physical building of robots covered in this workshop, all the skills acquired will be directly transferrable to programming VEX-based robots for the competition.

Who can attend?

The workshop is primarily meant for BEST student team members, and their mentors and teachers. Hub representatives and other volunteers interested in learning MATLAB and Simulink for BEST Robotics could also attend.

What about the computers and software?

Our goal is to provide computers at the venue that are preloaded with the MATLAB/Simulink software. If this is not possible, students will be asked to bring their own laptop preloaded with the MATLAB/Simulink software. Instructions will be provided on how to request and install the software after a student has registered. We will decide by June 15th if students will need to bring their laptops.
