What is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?
The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.
Follow in the footsteps of an American hero to honor all of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and support our first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty! How far is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?
The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk - New York City is approximately 3.5 miles long.
Can I get a timing chip?
Yes, you may purchase timing chips online only thru 11:59 pm on Monday, September 19, 2016. After September 19th and through Saturday, September 24th you can get a timing chip only if you register in person at any Registration Site. NO TIMING CHIPS WILL BE SOLD ON THE DAY OF RUN.

Can I register the day of the run?
Yes, you can register the day of the run (September 25th) at the IKEA parking lot in Brooklyn, New York. Please note that no timing chips will be provided to those who register on race day. Charge Cards will be accepted on Race Day in Brookyn.
When does online registration close?
Online registration will remain open UNTIL 4:00 pm on September 24, 2016
ONLY online registrations that include the purchase of a timing chip will close on 11:59 pm on Monday, September 19, 2016. You still may register online through 4:00 pm on September 24 if not purchasing a timing chip.
Is there transportation to and from the event?
To the start line in Brooklyn: Yes! NY Water Taxi boats will leave from Pier 11, at the end of Wall Street, beginning at 6 AM. The last boat leaves for Brooklyn at 7:30 AM. You must be on the boat line by 7:30 AM to get to the start line on time!
After the run, returning to Brooklyn? Yes, as long as you have a Bib on the front of your shirt, From PIER 11, NYC back to Brooklyn, IKEA, your ride will be free of charge!
Is there parking available?
Yes, parking is available by South Street Seaport.
Where can I pick up my packet?
Bib numbers/packets can be picked up at the start of the run, at IKEA parking lot in Brooklyn, NY. However, we request that you pick up your bib number/packet prior to the day of the run at the following dates/locations:

Do I have to wear my bib number?
Yes, please display your bib on the front of your outermost garment. Those who run without a bib will be asked to leave the course and will not be allowed to finish.
I am a fast runner. Can I get a front line position?
Runners predicting a pace faster than 6 minute/mile will be seeded in the front corral. A separate entrance will be at the front of the start line.
Will water be available?
Yes, water stations will be located at the start, finish and at a station at the end of the tunnel on the Manhattan side. Participants may NOT carry water bottles in the tunnel. We ask that you please DO NOT bring water bottles in the tunnel. With every participant's safety in mind, we look forward to an enjoyable and successful event.
What can you bring to the event?
There is a strict no bag policy this year at Pier 11. Nobody will be allowed to bring a bag onboard the boat unless they have a form from their doctor stating they need to bring meds or a medical device with them. If someone does present a letter, the bag in question must be checked thoroughly prior to boarding.
One (1) clear plastic bag will be supplied by UPS to put your belongings in. Please do not bring valuables. Have someone hold them for you. T2T is not responsible for any personal items/valuables.
To pick up items left at a UPS Truck after the run in Manhattan:
To locate your belongings that you left on a UPS truck after the run, UPS trucks are located on Murray Street (East Side) across West St. Please Pick up before 12:00 Noon.
LOST AND FOUND:
Lost and Found will be at the Volunteer Check-In Tent located on North End Avenue, (End of Vesey Street. This tent will open be open until 2:30 PM Race day.
Can I run with a stroller, backpack, wheelchair, roller blades, bicycle, bags, water bottles, scott packs, child-carrier backpacks and weight vests etc?
No. The run is restricted to foot traffic ONLY, as per the City of New York, for reasons of safety and security. For your safety and security the MTA and NYPD absolutely prohibit any backpacks, strollers and bicycles in the tunnel and on any of Tunnel to Towers-provided transportation. This will be strictly enforced. Also Firefighters- ABSOULETLY NO SCOTT-PAKS!
Can I get a refund? Can I transfer my registration?
Unfortunately, ALL SALES ARE FINAL and we do not allow refunds. However, you may transfer your registration to another participant. For instructions on how to transfer your registration please click here.

Does my registration fee count towards my fundraising goal?
Registration fees help offset some of the expenses associated with making the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk one of the country’s greatest annual events, however your fundraising efforts enable us to continue to make a difference in the lives of so many in need.
