Will we cover financial aid and how to pay for college?

We will discuss the difference between public and private schools and how to understand a college's published cost of attendance as it relates to formulating a college list. Katie was not a financial aid officer, though, and this workshop is not focused on financial aid or scholarships.

Do I have to bring a laptop?

Accepted Answer

No, although for the senior workshop it is HIGHLY recommended. Participants can do their work on paper and print materials will be provided. There are three computers available on site for students who need a computer and internet access for certain activities during the workshop.

I want to attend a College Search Workshop, but this session doesn't work for me/is full. Help?

Accepted Answer

If you aren't available to attend the full workshop both days, please email Katie to join her waitlist and hear about future workshops. Katie's email is katie.haraguchi@gmail.com.

Should parents attend the workshop?

Accepted Answer

No. This workshop is directed to students who want to engage in self-exploration and exercise agency in their college application process. Parents and students interested in alternative formats are invited to email questions and comments to Katie directly at katie.haraguchi@gmail.com.

Question 5

I'm going to be a junior. Can I register for this workshop?

Accepted Answer

No, this workshop is specific to the needs of rising seniors. Katie has a separate workshop for rising juniors on July 13-14, 2024. It has a similar format but is tailored to the college search, admission timeline, and activities for juniors planning to start college in the Fall of 2026.

Can I bring my own food and beverages?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The site for our workshop has a kitchen with a refrigerator, hot/cold water dispenser, microwave, and other basic kitchen amenities. Light snacks and beverages (water, tea, and hot chocolate) will be provided.

Do I need to pick a day? Or buy a ticket for each day?

Accepted Answer

No! Please just buy one ticket per person. Each ticket covers attendance for the entire 2-day workshop.

What if I can only attend one day?

Accepted Answer

Please do not reserve a spot if you aren't available to attend both days of the workshop. Each day is unique and a necessary part of the course. If you would like to be informed of future workshops, please email Katie directly at katie.haraguchi@gmail.com.

Why should I work with Katie?

Katie was an admission counselor at the University of Puget Sound before attending law school. She interviewed hundreds of students, reviewed thousands of applications, and voted in admission committees. Katie loves working with high school students and demystifying the admission process!
