Becoming an Eco Researcher for Chicago Environmentalists (Session #2)

Do you care about the planet and want to help Chicagoans live sustainably? Do you enjoy gathering and compiling data to make it easier for people to find things? Do you want to join a diverse team of passionate eco warriors who are working together to make our city more environmentally friendly? Do you want to be a part of a growing nonprofit organization that's making real change?

Well, now you can! We (Chicago Environmentalists) are looking to build a diverse volunteer research team to expand our website, ChicagoEnvironmentalists.org. The website is essentially the "Green Pages" of Chicagoland- a directory for people to find the businesses, organizations, city resources, and DIY options that can help them live sustainably and become active in changing the way our city operates. We are looking to add several new categories in 2026, including Green Energy and Environmental Justice. We generally would like to strengthen our listings on the South Side of the city, redo/expand our Restaurant page, and improve our Interactive Map. The majority of this work can be done from home, whenever you have time! Although we would ask for a certain number of hours per month to ensure our projects can advance on time. The researchers we are looking for:

• Are passionate about sustainable living and environmental issues
• Are 21 years or older
• Live in Chicago or the surrounding suburbs and will be living here through 2026. South Side and suburban residents especially encouraged to attend!
• Are HIGHLY DETAIL-ORIENTED (VERY important. If you do not consider yourself to be detail oriented, PLEASE leave the space for someone else)
• Have at least two years of college education, we will accept students in their junior year or above.
• Understand that this is a volunteer role and will not offer paid work

If you are a YES for all of these, then we encourage you to apply. We also need you to answer ALL questions in the registration form to be admitted to the event. Additionally, if you have a background in web development and/or have worked with Squarespace before, there may be an opportunity to work directly on the website in the future. Please note that this is not a requirement- the majority of the tasks are gathering information so that the website team can add it to the website and format it accordingly. For those who like writing, we will also offer opportunities to write for our blog, if that interests you! We hope to see you at this event.

Chicago Environmentalists is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to change Chicago culture so environmental issues become a social and political priority. They run an online sustainability community where those who care about environmental issues can ask questions and find sustainability resources, events, news, policy updates, and more. They also host a website that serves as the "Green Pages" of Chicagoland, and advocate for environmental legislation.
