About the speakers
Melinda Liu
获奖的外国记者刘美远(Melinda Liu)是美国《新闻周刊》杂志驻北京分社社长,多年来一直报道中国。自1998年11月起,她一直在北京生活和工作,此前她曾于1980年至1982年担任美国《新闻周刊》首任北京分社社长,并居住在这座城市。作为美国《新闻周刊》经验最丰富的驻外记者之一,她广泛旅行,报道了中国后毛时代的现代化进程、苏联占领阿富汗及塔利班政权的垮台、1991年科威特解放,以及美国在索马里和海地的军事干预。2003年,她是少数几位驻巴格达巴勒斯坦饭店的美国记者之一,亲眼目睹了美国对伊拉克首都的“震慑与敬畏”轰炸以及萨达姆·侯赛因政权的垮台。刘美远因其对亚洲的报道,于2006年获得肖伦斯坦新闻奖。
Award-winning foreign correspondent Melinda Liu is Beijing Bureau Chief for Newsweek Magazine, and has reported on China for much of her career. She’s lived and worked in Beijing since November 1998, returning to a city in which she had resided from 1980 to 1982 as Newsweek’s first Beijing Bureau Chief. She also travelled widely as one of Newsweek’s most experienced foreign correspondents, covering China's post-Mao modernization; the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and the fall of the Taliban; the 1991 liberation of Kuwait; and U.S. military interventions in Somalia and Haiti. In 2003, she was one of few American journalists in Baghdad's Palestine Hotel as a firsthand witness to the U.S. “shock and awe” bombing of the Iraqi capital and the fall of Saddam Hussein. Liu won the 2006 Shorenstein Journalism Award in recognition of her reporting on Asia.

A renowned collector who owns more than 100,000 original vintage photographs. Zou’s collection includes over 10,000 photos documenting people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States, capturing authentic records and vivid details of interactions between the two countries’ peoples from the 1860s to the 1940s. In recent years, Zou Dehuai has held several exhibitions at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, the USS Hornet Museum in California, and the Pacific War Memorial Hall in San Francisco. Moreover, Zou Dehuai is also the author of the recently published and widely acclaimed book Our Country. In this outstanding book, he has selected nearly 150 historical photographs related to World War II. These images, with their powerful visual impact, vividly showcase the perseverance of the Chinese people during the war and the collaboration with the United States.
