About this event
Learn the BASICS of Powder Coating with instructor Scot.
Powder coating is made from a dry powder of polymer resins, pigments, fillers, and additives, which are then melted and cured to form a hard, durable finish. Materials that can be powder coated include most metals, and some other materials, provided they have the ability to hold an electrostatic charge and endure high heat.
This class runs about 1.5 hours. Attendees will learn how to powder coat objects under 15x15 inches in a hands-on demonstration. Materials are provided. Each student is allowed to bring one raw metal item, stripped of any paint, under 4 inches, however, there is no guarantee that your item will be chosen for the demonstration.
This class will include:
- How to prepare and de-grease items
- How and where to set up projects
- The process & technique of using the powder coating gun
- Heating and timing using the oven
- Safety tips
- Clean up
Additional information will include what items can be powdercoated and where to get your own powder coating.
The oven will be hot during instruction and will need to cool down after demonstration. Students will not be expected to stay for the oven to cool down and be stored away.
Lacey MakerSpace members who successfully complete this course will be considered proficient and will be allowed to use the Powder Coating equipment during open shop hours.

Starting July 19th 2025 we will be instituting a $10 no-show fee for LMS members who don't show up for the classes they sign up for. These fees will be charged to the card we have on file. This fee is being instituted because we have had a pattern of members not showing up to our classes. Our classes have a limited amount of slots and we want to serve as many attendees as possible.
