About this event

Holiday • Halloween

Join us for a thrilling Day of the Dead–inspired evening where nature and creativity meet!

We’ll gather at Cleveland Park (along Scotland St, Houston TX 77007) and take a short walk together to the Waugh Bridge Bat Colony, home to one of Houston’s most spectacular natural sights.

As the sun sets and hundreds of bats take flight, we’ll settle onto the grassy knoll with picnic blankets and notebooks in hand. We'll then guide you through some spooky, Día de los Muertos–inspired writing prompts (or whatever inspiration the group is feeling). There will also be an optional sharing circle for anyone who wants to read their work aloud.

✨ What to bring:

  • A notebook & pen (extras will be available)
  • A picnic blanket or something comfy to sit on
  • Your curiosity & creative spirit

This event is perfect for writers, poets, or anyone looking for a unique way to connect with Day of the Dead traditions, nature, and creativity.

Come write under the bats and sunset—you never know what inspiration might take flight!
