Overview

Annual Veterans Day Program at the Military Women's Memorial

Join us, in-person or virtually, this Veterans Day, November 11, at 3:00 PM, for the 28th annual Military Women’s Memorial Veterans Day ceremony. This observance is one of the major Veterans Day events in the National Capital Region.

Free and open to the public, the event includes formal military honors, remarks from servicewomen from each of the military services, wreath layings, and a keynote address which will be delivered this year by local artist Vivian Cavalieri, creator of the Memorial’s newest exhibit, From War to Peace: World War II Opportunity, Postwar Domesticity. A Harvard University Art History major, Ms. Cavalieri turned to the law and New York University Law School after deciding she didn’t draw well enough. She spent the next 20 years practicing law in New York and Washington, DC, before turning back to her art. Her three-dimensional pieces she calls assemblages are thought-provoking reflections on issues of the day. We are also honored to welcome Demetria Simms, Navajo Nation Veterans Laision, who will bring greetings from Navajo Nation president Dr. Buu Van Nygren. Presenting the Colors this Veterans Day will be members of the Navajo Nation Dine Women Veterans DSSG. The Memorial is privileged to have a long-standing, rewarding relationship with the Navajo Nation, beginning with the Memorial’s dedication.

In celebration of America’s Veterans, guests are invited for light refreshments following the program. To make sure we have adequate seating and refreshments, please RSVP, indicating the number attending. We look forward to having you join us for the major national day to honor America’s veterans.

Our program will be held inside the Memorial.

Situated at the ceremonial entrance to Arlington National Cemetery, the Military Women’s Memorial is the only major national memorial and education center dedicated to preserving and honoring the history of all servicewomen – past and present. More than 3 million women have served in the military since the American Revolution, yet the stories of these courageous patriots are largely untold. For more than 25 years, the mission of the Memorial has been to honor and tell the stories of service of all women who have served our nation. By ensuring these stories of honor, duty, and sacrifice live on in perpetuity, future generations of girls and women are able to see clear pathways and leadership examples through military service. The Memorial educates and inspires through innovative and interactive exhibitions, our world-class collections, and engaging programs and events for all generations.
