Event description
Cinema on the Bayou is an annual eight-day juried international film festival held the last week in January in and around Lafayette, LA.

About this Event

The 15th Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival will be held on January 22-29, 2020.

The Film Festival will screen nearly 200 films from around the world -- including U.S., Louisiana and World premieres -- with over 200 filmmakers, producers, actors, musicians, distributors, grant source representatives and other industry professionals in attendance from across the United States and Canada, as well as from around the world. In addition to the film screenings, the Festival will present expert panel discussions, filmmaker Q&A's, nightly parties and live music.

The Festival is now unique among film festivals in the U.S. in that it regularly screens a large number of French-language independent films and presents filmmakers from throughout the Francophone world, making Cinema on the Bayou the center of Francophone independent film in the U.S.

The Film Festival will open on Wednesday evening, January 22, 2020, with a film screening, gala reception and music at Vermilionville Performance Center. Thereafter, films will screen at various venues in and around Lafayette, LA, including Cite des Arts, Vermilionville, and Acadiana Center for the Arts. The Film Festival will close on Wednesday evening January 29, 2020, with a film screening and reception at Acadiana Center for the Arts.

A full description of the films and schedule of film screenings, receptions, music performances and panel discussions will be posted in early January at www.cinemaonthebayou.com.

All-access passes are available now for $100.00. Friends of the Festival Sponsorships are available for $250.00. Opening and Closing Night tickets and individual film tickets will go on sale in December.

Films screened are Official Selections from the Film Festival's open call for submissions from independent filmmakers from around the world. The 2020 Festival lineup will be chosen from a total pool of more than 1,000 submissions and will include feature-length narrative fiction and documentary films and short films, including narrative, documentary, animated and experimental films. The majority of the films will be World, U.S. or Louisiana Premieres.

Films in competition are eligible to win our coveted “goujon caille” award created by local artists Pat and Andre Juneau.
