So, how do I get started in becoming a Scallop Sitter?

1. Register on Eventbrite!

2. Take the Pre-Survey (link will be sent to your email address in April)

3. View Virtual Workshop in early May

4. Attend Zoom virtual Q & A session in May (multiple dates will be available)

5. Pick up supplies & scallops in June

* CDC guidelines concerning COVID-19, as well as current University policies must be followed regarding the onsite outdoor staging location for supplies and scallop pickup. These guidelines and policies include, but are not limited to no more than 50 people onsite, keeping a minimum of 6-foot distance, wearing facemasks and hand sanitizer stations. To minimize contact exposure, volunteers will text message the Extension Agent in charge of their arrival, as they approach the staging area. At that point, project staff will bring supplies to the vehicle. Once staff are at least 6-feet away, participants can then load their supplies and scallops.

Scallop pickup time: June 3rd /10-noon

Date: June 3, 2021

Location: FSU Coastal & Marine Lab (3618 Coastal Hwy 98, St. Teresa)

As a reminder, the only requirements to participate in this program are the following:

• Live near St. George Sound from June 2021 – January 2022

• Have access to the bay: either a private dock, boat, or kayak

• Be willing and able to care for and clean scallops once a month from June – January

• View via webinar our scallop-restoration training workshop

• Availability to pick-up scallops

• To become a scallop-sitter, we will also need some basic information from you to complete the required FWC permit for this project.
