Faculty Forum: Academic Freedom & Free Speech

Recent events on our campus and at campuses across the country have raised questions about faculty members' rights and responsibilities regarding academic freedom, First Amendment rights to free speech, and classroom practice.

How are academic freedom and the right to speech different, and where do they intersect? What are the rights and responsibilities of faculty members and students in campus discussions, classroom debates, and public communication? Please join us for this discussion, where we will explore the best ways to navigate these challenges both in and outside the classroom.

Speakers:

  • Jay Rosselló, Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel
  • Louisa Nkrumah, Learning Experience Designer and Faculty Coach, Teaching & Learning Transformation Center (TLTC)

Facilitator:

Laura J. Rosenthal, Director for Faculty Leadership, Office of Faculty Affairs

If you require accommodations, please email Office of Faculty Affairs or call 301.405.6803.
