What supplies do I need?

Please have 6-10 pieces of substrate to mark up per session. That could be copy paper, art papers, amazon packing paper, cardboard, a piece of glass; the possibilities are endless. **TIP **Vary your sizes, try colored paper or black paper. Mark making: paint, crayon, marker, pencil, anything!

Do I have to share my art/process?

Accepted Answer

No. Sharing is always a choice and please do not feel pressured to share. If you chose not to share, please say "pass" and stay present for other people's shares. One mission of the Flow State Sessions is to grow community and to learn from each other.

How can I provide feedback about the class?

Do you host private events?

Accepted Answer

I would love to provide professional development days, corporate events, parties. I am open to in person events in the Portland area or if you'd like to fly me out to your location! Please email me at flowstatesession@gmail.com.

Question 5

What are the group rules about cameras and mics?

Accepted Answer

You must have your camera on during the talking parts of our meeting. You can turn your camera off when you are creating. Mics must be off during my intro. Please use the hand in Zoom to "raise your hand" to be called on. Absolutely no recording allowed. You will be kicked out if camera is off.

What does 'no critique' mean?

Your work will not be complimented nor will you be given any feedback. You are encouraged to share materials used, your process, discoveries made about the art making and/or the internal processes of your flow. Low pressure, high reward!

Question 7

Why should I try this?

Accepted Answer

Every time you say “this is new for me” instead of “I’m bad at this,” you allow your brain space to learn instead of shut down. Neuroplasticity in action. Often our anxieties and inner monologue get in the way of letting us create creatively. I want to give you tools to explore making art freely.

Question 8

Do I need to be an 'artist' to participate?

Accepted Answer

Hell no! People get very caught up in the word, 'artist'. Here, anyone making is considered an artist; you are practicing art. I encourage writers and 'non creatives' to give it a go. Art is just another lense to look through. I will give you space to find your voice.

Question 9

What if I need to leave early?

Accepted Answer

No worries. Just exit the class, no need to explain yourself. I will not take it personally. Please come back when you can. You are always welcome here.
