Webinar Description:

Participants will learn and practice the proven strategies to help parents overcome their fears about special education and get the services their child needs. Learn the words that work to ease parents’ fears and address their concerns. Through roleplays, participants will practice responding to challenging situations with parents. With over 30 years of experience working with young children and families, Dr. Mesh will guide you through successful strategies he’s used to help thousands of parents adjust to special education over the years.


By leading our communications with our hearts and ears we professionals will be able to move from challenging to constructive conversations. Listen first to understand the psychological and emotional causes of a parents concerns. Then, use the “words that work” that can validate parents’ questions as well as provide information to help them make the decisions that are in the best interest of their child.


Learn how to more effectively build rapport, gain trust, and guide families through the special education process with empathy and confidence. These tools will help professionals provide clarity and reassurance to parents leaving them feeling heard and supported.



Objectives:

The participants will be able to…

1. Explain the implications of special education labels and how to effectively communicate their meaning to parents, including the long-term impact on their child’s development.

2. Demonstrate strategies for addressing parent concerns about the risks and benefits of early childhood special education, while emphasizing the positive outcomes of early intervention.

3. Identify techniques to manage and alleviate parents' concerns about the possibility of long-term special education needs, fostering a sense of confidence and collaboration in the process.


Speaker's Bio

Dr. Scott Mesh is the Director of Young Child Learning and the CEO and Co-Founder of Los Niños Services which serves 2,000 young children with special needs each year through homecare and center services. He is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of experience working with young children and their families and is an expert on assessing young children for developmental disabilities and autism. He has helped thousands of parents over the years make the transition to gaining help for their children through early childhood special education services. He is a leader in early childhood development and working effectively with parents.


Cancellation Policy:

If you cancel within 30 days before the event, the registration fee is not refundable. However, you will receive a credit for the registration fee which can be applied to another Young Child Learning event within the following 12 months. The processing fee is non-refundable.


Special Accommodations or Requests.

Individuals with disabilities in need of special accommodations should contact the Admin, Cari Laroza at (212) 787-9700 ext. 3330 to make a request. The Admin will work with the team to provide the necessary accommodations. Requests for special accommodations must be made at least a month prior to the webinar date. Once accommodations are found, the Admin will confirm need for accommodations. Once the individual confirms, the special accommodations will be secured. If the individual finds that he or she is no longer in need of the accommodations, he or she must contact the Admin a week before the webinar date.


Grievance Policy & Procedure

Young Child Learning will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of Young Child Learning. All grievances must be submitted in writing (via e-mail or mail) within 30 days of the end of the webinar date. Any supporting documents must be included with the submitted complaint. For all grievances, contact information (name, phone number, and email) must be provided in the case that the Young Child Learning team may need clarification.
