Come discover the fascinating world of lichens during a hands-on presentation that will be of interest to students and adults. These amazing 'organisms' are combinations of fungal tissues embedded with algal cells. Lichens exist in a symbiotic relationship known as mutualism in which both member species benefit from the partnership. You may be surprised to learn who was one of the first people to discover what lichens really are. Examine the wide variety of lichen colors, shapes, growth patterns, and even 'behaviors.' Learn about lichens' ecological importance to other members of their habitat. There's even an economic importance to humans as they may use lichens in some of their hobbies.
