10 Words is a free-to-access workshop to build poems, with the assistance of strangers who also turn up to the event.
Each person is given an A4 piece of paper,
We then rip the paper into ten small pieces.
On each small piece of paper, you write down a word.
Each word can be as short/difficult/strange/far-reaching as you wish.
All the words are then placed into a cloudy glass jar.
The jar is shaken and then offered to everyone in the group,
to each pick out ten words at random.
The objective is to then build one or multiple poems which include the ten random words you received.
This specific workshop follows in the tradition of poem-building exercises by writers from Pegasus Poets.
Pegasus met each month, from 2005-2016 at Hilldrop Community Centre in Holloway, London.
These sessions allowed our elders to learn English through poetry and brought much-needed creativity/warmth into our home as children.
unintentionally, the sessions with Pegasus turned us into young poets.
