Lakemont

When the quiet, rustic rhythm of Lakemont gives way to weekend energy, there are many events and things to do in the area. Most of the social scene centers on nearby downtown Clayton, with its farm-to-table restaurants and local breweries. The region's calendar is also shaped by Appalachian heritage and outdoor life, featuring annual celebrations of mountain culture.

• For a low-key night out, the breweries and distilleries in Clayton offer a relaxed atmosphere with weekly music bingo or trivia.
• Celebrate Appalachian heritage at the Foxfire Museum & Heritage Center, which hosts the annual Foxfire Mountaineer Festival.
• Find local produce and crafts at community markets, such as the Clayton Farmers Market or the market at the Rabun County Civic Center, which run during the warmer months.
