Learn about the most recent statistics, studies and programs around sexual violence and its prevention. Recognize the complex intersectionalities between sexual violence, homophonic bullying, dating violence, academic performance and mental health. Learn about the innovative solution being implemented by Maryland Carey Law's Levitas Initiative through in-school programming to create a future with fewer children becoming survivors and/or perpetrators of sexual harm. Be the first to hear the promising outcomes of this five year program. The Erin Levitas Initiative for Sexual Violence Prevention uses a restorative justice framework to engage middle school students in educational activities designed to help them identify, question, and reject the destructive ideas that give rise to sexual violence. We employ a public health approach to sexual assault prevention through the use of our E.R.I.N. (Empathy, Respect, Integrity, Nurturing connections) Talk curriculum, which is delivered using restorative dialogue circles facilitated by trained law and social work students. The curriculum covers verbal and non-verbal communication skills, safe use of social media and technology, positive gender norms, healthy boundaries, consent, and bystander intervention.
