Sandy Verma leads AT&T’s Internet of Things Strategy & Solutions in Asia Pacific, providing an industry-leading suite of machine-to-machine (M2M) services with global connectivity, application delivery platforms and Vertical Strategies. Now based in Hong Kong, Sandy joined AT&T in 2001 and has been at the forefront of the company’s work launching of 3G and 4G. He has been honored by City of Los Angeles for his pioneering work developing and deploying the City’s first public safety wireless solution. Sandy graduated Masters in Business Administration and International Trade from Claremont and the University of Oxford, and undertook an Executive Management Program at the University of Southern California.

Astri, Kenny Chan, Senior Manager, Intelligent Devices

Mr Kenny Chan is a Senior Manager of the Intelligent Projection Systems team in Manufacturing Technologies Group, ASTRI. Kenny has 17 years of industry experience in display and sensing fields, covering R&D, project management, technology commercialization and sales marketing. After joining ASTRI in 2008, Kenny successfully contributed to the spun-off case of the world’s smallest optical anti-shaking camera module. In recent years, his team has successfully developed several world leading pico projection technology solutions, such as the world’s first single lens dual panel 3D pico projector, the world’s first single camera based depth sensing projector with the former winning China National Awards in 2008 and 2012 and HKICT Gold Award 2012 and 2014 (Best Lifestyle).

Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, Dr Toa CHARM Ka-ieong, Chief Public Mission Officer

With more than 25 years of leadership and extensive experience in FinTech, big data, business intelligence, and enterprise solutions, Dr Charm brings with him a wealth of experience from private consultancy, public administration, and academic sectors. He has built strong connections with the tech industry and served on a number of advisory boards of universities, start-up communities, NGOs, and other trade organisations including Hong Kong Computer Society, Tung Wah Hospital Group, City University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He is the EXCO member and Vice President (Innovation and Technology Application) of Hong Kong Computer Society, Founder and Chairperson of Business Intelligence and Big Data, and Founder and Chairperson of FinTech SIG of Hong Kong Computer Society.

 

HKT, Richard Midgett, Managing Director, Wireless Business for HKT Limited

Mr. Midgett has over 30 years experience in the telecommunications industry. He begain his career with Cable & Wireless USA, where he served in a range of technical management roles including nationwide field service operations and exchange engineering and management. After joining HongKong Telecom's CSL mboile team in 1989, he served in a variety of roles spanning the areas of business development, product development, government policy and regulation and lastly, overseeing the commercial line of business for roaming, international carrier and wholesale service before moving to HKT in 2007.

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Peter Yeung, Head of ICT, Smart City & Green Tech

Ir Yeung, Head of Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Cluster and Green Technology Cluster of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, is responsible for the cluster development, market strategy and development of the Smart City platform. A Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and served as the Chairman of the Electronics Division (2009-2010 Session) of the Institution. Ir Yeung has over 25 years of experience in business management and technology development. Peter holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the Oregon State University and a Master degree in Business Administration from the York University of Toronto. Peter is also a member of IEEE and the Pau Beta Pi Engineering Society.

 

Sierra Wireless, Pierre Teyssier, Senior Vice President, Purchasing and Regional GM APAC

Pierre Teyssier holds overall responsibility for global purchasing. He joined Sierra Wireless in March 2009 as Senior Vice President Engineering, responsible for global engineering and product development activities. Pierre previously worked at Wavecom, where he served as Vice President of Operations and Smart Business Solutions. Prior to joining Wavecom in 2001, he worked for Axiohm, where he was Director of Manufacturing, holding numerous positions from 1989 to 2000 including: manufacturing manager, plant manager, and director of purchasing and logistics. From 1988 to 1989 he worked at Enerdis as a software engineer.

 

Uber, Kenneth She, General Manager of Hong Kong

Kenneth She oversees operations for Uber in Hong Kong, ensuring that no matter where you are in the city, you can push a button and get a ride within minutes. Kenneth joined as the first member of Uber in Hong Kong in early 2014, and under his leadership the business has grown exponentially to now serve tens of thousands of riders and drivers every day. In his role, Kenneth also works closely with local organisations, universities, and the tech and startup community to promote social innovation in Hong Kong.

 

ZTE (H.K), Derek Han, CTO

Derek Han is CTO of ZTE (H.K.) LTD. Derek has 6 years of LTE and Pre5G/5G experience in R&D, Strategy and Planning, Marketing and Planning. Pre5G, an intermediate step between the current 4G technology and 5G, combines 5G technology with existing 4G terminal products to allow faster speeds. Derek and his team had achieved Pre5G market breakthrough in Asia.

 

GSMA, Leland Lai, Managing Director

Leland heads GSMA’s P&L and operations of its regional offices in Asia. In 2011, he led GSMA through a strategic pivot and grew Mobile World Congress Shanghai (www.mwcshanghai.com) from 2,300 to 53,000 attendees in 5 years. Leland began his career with Hutchison Telecom in 1990, and participated in world’s first GSM bids in Germany, Greece and Australia. He then restructured in Puerto Rico an Alcatel-ITT MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) for an IPO as part of eOn Communications (Nasdaq:EONC). Thereafter, he spearheaded Terayon Communication’s (Nasdaq:TERN) DVB-H trial with PCCW and closed a groundbreaking deal with Qualcomm. These successes contributed to Motorola’s $140M acquisition of Terayon in 2007. Leland has consulted for a China Mobile service provider and for world’s largest smartphone maker. Leland holds an MBA and a mechanical engineering degree from UCLA. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps and is an FAA licensed pilot and an ASA bareboat captain.

 

GSMA, William Tse, Strategic Engagement Director

William has joined GSMA since 2013 as Strategic Engagement Director, he currently is driving on Future Communications, Personal Data and Connected Living Programme, with Asia operators’ engagement and ecosystem strategic partnership. Prior to joining GSMA, William had more than 15 years experience in Ericsson, Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks, as Head of Strategy Sales and Head of Solution, etc, working in strategy & sales development in networks, services, business and multimedia domains. He and his team had achieved the market & customer breakthrough in Japan, Australia, Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia markets in numbers of deals. William has MSc and MBA academy qualification from HKUST ranked top 10 in world.

 

GSMA, Yoojin Ahn, Regional Sales Director APAC, MWC Shanghai

Yoojin Ahn is the Regional Sales Director for Asia Pacific spearheading the business growth within the region for one of the fastest growing mobile technology events in Asia: Mobile World Congress Shanghai. The 2017 show is currently looking to attract over 70,000 international attendees from a multitude of mobile industries over the course of 4 days. Yoojin has 10 years of sales and business development experience in various industry sectors ranging from international print & digital media, global conferences and consumer goods across the region prior to joining the GSMA and holds a degree in Management Science.
