You are invited to a relaxed scratch performance of an inclusive electric cello experience.

Defiant Journey is a new performance piece, being developed by composer and musician Jo-Anne Cox with R&D funding from Arts Council England and Help Musicians UK. It is a project led by a disabled artist, with access and inclusion running through every element of the show.

About Defiant Journey

Defiant Journey is a sonic saga, told by a musician and her electric ally. It is the story of navigating the highs and lows of life as a neurodivergent artist.

Invoking the language of mythology to explore a personal and political narrative, it exposes and challenges our stories around identity, mental health and it questions the cruel vagaries of the welfare state.

Following her muse and immersing herself in colour and sound, the artist shares her steps towards hope and a rebellious dance to her own tune.

This will be a relaxed performance where movement and noise is appropriate and welcome. The show involves audience interaction and sensory experiences. You are free to choose how you engage with it, and to what extent. There are innovative lighting technologies used in the show which involve some flickering lights.

There will be a Touch Tour before the performance for Visually Impaired people (VIPs), or those who would like to familiarise themselves with the space. It begins at 2pm. Please let us know if you would like to attend this.

Comfortable seating will be provided for those who may wish to use it. The performance will be audio described and BSL interpreted and there is a Hearing Loop in the venue.

The venue is wheelchair accessible and there are accessible toilets on each level. Guide dogs and access dogs are welcome. For full venue info please visit the Stratford Circus Arts Centre website.
