Wandered in to this unassuming establishment on a whim, unsure of what to expect. I was instantly struck by the quiet, intimate nature of the small but well-appointed interior. The owner was not only friendly, but also a great bartender; going the extra mile to ensure satisfaction with our drinks. When it came time to eat, the attentive waiter had our food (from the Thai place across the street) to us in record time. Unfortunately we left before the live music started, but I'll definitely be stopping by again!
So you hang out, you listen to some smokey jazz, you talk to your bartender. Your bartender pairs you up with good drinks during the show, plays you Coltrane on vinyl just for you after the live music winds down, and things just feel right. You keep on coming back. That's my story, anyway. Try the amazing Mr. Toad, or the bitter chocolate-style white Russian "Spiked Sloane," if you're new. Then try everything else. Many of the spirits are sourced from excellent local distilleries, and the staff are clearly checking all the stuff they serve for quality. For the beer fans, there's always great stuff on tap, too. The music is also great. I find myself wandering into Lucid off the street while walking somewhere else thanks to the sounds coming from within. There's not a thing like it on the Ave. You got the right place.
