5 out of 5 . It's so hard to find good quality instruction in language (and I have a linguistic background). And the price is incredibly reasonable. Love it!

After taking the CL16 class, I am able to read around 120 characters which is very exciting! I just have 6000 more to go :-) Seriously, I'm surprised at how many things I can already say in Mandarin. My teachers are very friendly, upbeat and patient and it 's a pleasure to learn with them. I'm looking forward to taking the next level course. 再见!

I took the Introductory class and was surprised at how much I learned in such a short amount of time. The method of teaching and philosophy of learning are communicated to the students, which helps us understand the demands of successfully grasping a new language, especially a non-Latin based language such as Chinese. The introductory course is fast paced, intense, and fun. I feel that new parts of my brain have woken up, which is the norm when learning new languages. I'm looking forward to taking the elementary A and B courses and continuing onwards.

I have just completed the introductory Mandarin course at CLA of Los Angeles. Because the teachers are so encouraging, engaging, and engaged, I looked forward to every Sunday afternoon. Now I cannot wait to start the Basic Level classes in January. Though the pace was fast, the class and its members were delightful!

Through my work I had the privilege of being trained by the Chinese Language Academy. I can't say enough about the instructors from academy that came to my work place for two months. What they conveyed to us was not just the training of a language but equally as important they opened a window into a culture, showing us how we really do have so much in common. This enabled us to convey with humility a respect for our Chinese visitors and their history. It can be daunting at first when approaching a language such as Mandarin, but what the instructors from the academy were able to do was to break it down with a simplicity making it fun to learn. They gave us many tools to work with such as work sheets, sound charts, a manual, and videos that we could easily access from home for further study. As a result, I have been successful in my verbal exchanges with our Chinese visitors enriching their time here in the United States.
