If you’re making your list, checking it twice, and realizing you still don’t know what to buy for some of your loved ones, relax. We have some suggestions.
Instead of aimlessly perusing Amazon or your usual stores, consider making some of your presents this holiday season. The most heartfelt gifts are the ones we create ourselves, and these five classes are here to help you make it happen.
December 9, Flushing
Give a friend or family member one of the most traditional gifts ever by making them a holiday wreath at this 90-minute class that provides all materials and instructions. Symbolizing growth and everlasting life, a wreath will be a constant reminder to the recipient of how fondly you think of them. Plus, given that this class takes place at the Queens Botanical Garden, you can easily make plans to arrive early or stay late and make a full day of it.
December 12, Greenwich Village
If you have a body product junkie in your life, consider going to this class to make them all-natural soap, lip balm, bath salts, and roller balls. You’ll create custom aromatherapy scents for them to enjoy and you’ll even get a recipe book to include with your gift set so they can recreate some of the goods at home. Don’t worry, you’ll get a little gift too. Students will enjoy drinks with essential oils throughout the duration of the class.
December 14, Prospect Heights
Create a beautiful statement piece for someone’s home while sipping on wine, beer, or a holiday cocktail at this Friday night class. With succulent expert Alexis Henry as your guide, you’ll receive all the materials you need to craft a miniature ecosystem for a friend or family member to love. Limited spots are available, so be sure to sign up soon!
December 15, Williamsburg
Everyone knows someone who is a chocolate fanatic. Instead of buying a box of Godiva and calling it good, opt for learning the fundamentals of chocolate making at this workshop led by Beryl Fine, owner of Haute Chocolate Brooklyn. Each student will make their own custom flavors and will have an opportunity to decorate their delicious creations. The only hard part of this class will be deciding if you still want to gift your chocolate masterpiece — or keep it for yourself. If you can’t part with it, rest assured your secret is safe with us.
December 18, SoHo
You could buy an ornament from any number of NYC’s holiday markets this season, or you could make your very own instead! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll work with natural wood to create designs like snowflakes, holiday sayings, or personalized names using stencils and an assortment of paints. Each student will walk away with a set of four ornaments to gift as they please, or give as a set. Given CraftJam’s sweet BYOB policy, feel free to bring along your favorite winter beverage to help your creativity run wild.
