With annual sales topping one billion in The UK for the first time, rum is being hyped as the new tipple of choice for Londoners. If you really do like pina coladas, and never mind getting caught in the rain, here are seven places to sip the good stuff before summer’s out. Remember: time flies when you’re having rum.

Jump on board with Wood’s Navy Rum Boat

Ahoy there, grog-totting pirates! Climb aboard this floating rum palace, which will be moored canal-side at King’s Cross, then Hackney Wick, until the end of August. Book one of the nightly voyages along London’s waterways, and sail away with a rum cocktail in hand.

Granary Square until Aug 22, then Number 90 from Aug 23-27 | 7pm daily | £15.

Ride the rhythm and the river on a rum boat

Rum, reggae and (hopefully!) sunshine is a surefire combination for a good time. Cruise down the Thames on this rum-bunctious party boat, to the soundtrack of live steel drum performers and tropical DJs. Fuel your dancing strength with a selection of tasty and traditional Jamaican foods.

Departs from Westminster Pier | Aug 18, 1pm-4pm (boarding from 12.45pm) | £16.76-£27.54.

Immerse yourself in new tropical bar Laki Kane

Rum is royalty at this fun new tropical-themed bar, complete with rope ladders and call buttons for table service. Your unique cocktails will arrive in quirky drinks vessels, from a china pineapple to a carved gourd. Drinks are concocted with high quality and rare ingredients, and zero refined sugar.

Laki Kane, Angel | Mon-Wed 4.30pm-12.30am, Thu 4.30pm-1.30am, Fri 2.30pm-2.30am, Sat 12.30pm-2.30am, Sun 12.30pm-1.30am.

Expand your rum horizons at Cottons

Cottons, a respected elder in London’s Caribbean food and drink scene, now has four branches across the city. Rum connoisseurs need to hotfoot it to their Notting Hill outpost, which holds the Guinness World Record for offering the most amount of rums in a commercial setting – a cool 372.

Cottons Notting Hill | Mon-Thu 5pm-10pm, Fri-Sat 12pm-10.30pm, Sun 12pm-10pm

Soak up the atmos’ at Diplomático Palm Terrace

Transport yourself back to the 1930s at this old-school adventurer themed pop-up bar inside The Bloomsbury Club, where you can fill your boots with Diplomático rum, hailing from the foothills of the Venezuelan Andes. Sip your bespoke rum cocktails on a palm-fringed terrace, decorated with vintage traveler artefacts.

The Bloomsbury Club Bar, near Tottenham Court Road tube | Until Aug 31, Mon-Sat 5pm-1am, Sun 5pm-12am.

Taste tots on an old Elizabethan galleon

Celebrate National Rum Day (yes, it’s a thing) in befittingly glorious naval style at this RumCask-hosted tasting event. Aboard the Golden Hinde, a full-size reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake’s famous Elizabethan galleon, you’ll taste rums from around the world as you look out over the stunning South Bank and the Thames.

The Golden Hinde, St Mary Overie Dock | Aug 16, 6.30pm-9pm | £21.55.

Cadge free rum ice cream in a Greenwich pub garden

The stalwart flavour rum’n’raisin seems to have fallen out of favour in recent years, but we’re predicting a serious resurgence in rum-infused cold treats. Stay ahead of the gourmet curve with a sample of Kraken Rum’s dark and stormy ice cream, which will be given out free as a special treat at this Greenwich pub.

The Old Brewery Greenwich | Aug 11, 2pm | FREE.
