Veterans Advocacy Group (VAG)

Veterans Advocacy Group (VAG) in collaboration with Shannon Stone Consulting.

About Veterans Advocacy Group (VAG)

Former Presidents of DePaul’s Veterans Advocacy Group have banded together as alumni to unite and relaunch as the non-for-profit Veterans Advocacy Group (VAG). In its new form, it is no longer a student group, but now an organization that unites the community like it did in its heyday.  Currently, the organization is a new partner of VetNet, a nonprofit organization that utilizes peer support to connect veterans and their loved ones in applying for Veterans Affairs health care and benefits; directs veterans to legal, housing and employment resources; and more.

The organization stood as a beacon for not only students, but alumni, DePaul community, Chicago veteran community at large, and more. Over the years of their major activity, the group launched peer support for veterans on campus, worked on the Post-9/11 GI Bill, partnered with the Mayor’s Office on veterans programming in the city, and in February 2010 coordinated an evening HistoryMakers gala with over 300 guests honoring the Tuskegee Airmen, Buffalo Soldiers, and the Triple Nickles after which DePaul’s veterans received a half million dollar pledge from a military veteran alumni donor.  In May 2016 in honor of Memorial Day, the alumni former Presidents gathered together with OIDE and the SNL showcasing “Veterans Voices”, a documentary theatre project by Erasing the Distance exploring mental health issues facing servicemen and women, veterans, and their families.  As veterans have served in the military in the name of their families and country, VAG’s continued aim is through their nonprofit to serve veterans in higher education and the community at large.
