Valerie English Cooper

Valerie English Cooper is an independent certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and founder of the Mental Health Education Collaborative. A biochemist, Valerie built the Cardio- and Cerebrovascular Marketing Division of Bayer US then founded a successful medical communications company based in New Haven. Valerie sold her company to address the needs of family members with medical and mental health challenges. She built an ADHD Coaching practice and began work towards a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology before joining Mental Health Connecticut to execute SAMHSA’s (the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) “Now is the Time” Project AWARE Community Grant in a nationwide effort to make Mental Health First Aid as common as CPR/First Aid. Valerie is certified to train Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and Teen Mental Health First Aid as well as specialized modules for populations in Higher Education, Veterans, and EMS/Fire. Valerie has been recognized as one of the nation's top Mental Health First Aid instructors for the past two years by the National Council for Behavioral Health (out of 16,000 instructors).  Valerie also serves as a National Trainer for the National Council for Behavioral Health, training individuals who seek Mental Health First Aid instructor certification.
