Hosted by the Bountiful Davis Art Center, the debut edition of the UTAH BACH FEST opens on Tuesday, March 21st, the 332nd anniversary of the birth of its namesake, the seminal German Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach. “A Bach Birthday Celebration” features Utah Bach Fest guest artist Byron Schenkman in a program of virtuoso piano music by Bach and two other Baroque masters born in 1685, G. F. Handel and D. Scarlatti. It continues on Wednesday March 22nd with “Bach, Piazzolla, and the Jazz Masters,” a concert of the Art Sound Vision Jazz Trio and the Chrome Street Quartet exploring intersections of Bach, the modern Tango, and jazz improvisation. The festival concludes on Friday, March 24th, when Schenkman joins Salt Lake City chamber musicians Jakob Hofer, Christa Saeger and Geoffrey Dean for “Bach and the Romantic Revival,” including Felix Mendelssohn’s epic Bach-inspired Piano Trio in C minor.
All Utah Bach Fest concerts start at 7:30PM at the Bountiful Davis Art Center (BDAC, 90 N Main St, Bountiful, UT 84010). Tickets are available online at eventbrite, or can be purchased during the festival at BDAC.
